abstract = "Currently, a subject that is very discussed in the media is about
environmental laws and ways of controlling and monitoring the
same. For this reason, this work aimed to study a technique for
identifying, measuring and monitoring of areas of Legal Reserve
and Permanent Protection, according to the criteria established by
the Forest Code (Law 4771 / 6, amended by Law 7803/89) . Using
images taken by the SPOT satellite data in conjunction with
landscape data (obtained by the IBGE and the SRTM project), we can
locate and check the Permanent Preservation Areas and Legal
Reserves through a technique called Supervised Classification by
Maximum Likelihood (performed by the software ENVI). In this
study, it was possible to generate maps of the areas of vegetation
(native or reforested) and its quantification with good accuracy.
The results show that there was an increase in forest area,
probably due to reforestation programs reportedly the work of
Kronka. This study concluded that remote sensing, with its large
scale of tools and techniques, is more appropriate to be
monitoring those areas that require great attention.",
