             abstract = "Data analysis and numerical simulations of the atmospheric and 
                         oceanic PBL structure over the Atlantic Ocean area located in the 
                         upwelling region of Cabo Frio Coast, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 
                         (23grausS, 42graus08'W) is shown in this paper. During July 7-9, 
                         1992, the wind varied from the NE to SW and the depth and 
                         temperature of the oceanic mixed layer increased respectively 1 2 
                         graus C and 45m. The height of the of the PBL varied from 1 500m 
                         when the wind were from NE to 500m when the wind was from SW. The 
                         wind variation was associated with a cold front that arrived in 
                         the area in the evening of July 7. The role of the wind as driven 
                         mechanism for observed modifications in the oceanic PBL, is 
                         investigated by using a second order closure model for the 
                         atmosphere and a mixed layer model for the ocean. The numerical 
                         simulation was able to show the observed variation in the 
                         atmosphere but failed in to produce the observed deepening and the 
                         heating of the oceanic mixed layer. Therefore, reasonable 
                         explanation for these modifications is the weakening of the 
                         upwelling due to the change in the wind direction.",
