             abstract = "A modification of the Method for Object-Based Diagnostic 
                         Evaluation (MODE) is developed to evaluate the forecast of 
                         discrete variables using satellite images in TIFF format. Cloud 
                         forecast from ARPS model and images of GOES-13 geostationary 
                         satellite are used to check the performance of the proposed 
                         method. The results show that the method recognizes the cloud 
                         areas as result of convolution and thresholding processes. 
                         Suitable parameters for the objects identification process are 
                         convolution radius R = 4 and the thresholds T = 0.1 and T = 17 for 
                         the forecast and observation, respectively. The Euclidean distance 
                         measure, derived from the centroid, area and perimeter difference, 
                         identified objects with similar characteristics in the observation 
                         and forecast.",
