             abstract = "Considering the importance and the interest of the scientific 
                         community have to develop an efficient method of detection of 
                         scars of burning areas, this work shows the procedures using 
                         satellites images and free software. The images are from MODLAND/ 
                         NASA products and software Spring/ INPE. The study areas sampled 
                         selected are inside of Legal Amazonia since it is possible to 
                         state that the degradation process caused by fire in this area is 
                         a constant. The present paper aims to compare unsupervised 
                         classification methodology, automatically performed with the same 
                         results in the same classification after the corrections made by 
                         an interpreter. By this way is possible to evaluate the 
                         feasibility of the computing and human efforts in improving the 
                         quality of data.",
