             abstract = "Para que o Brasil se desenvolvesse economicamente, foram 
                         implantadas pol{\'{\i}}ticas de incentivo a ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         das regi{\~o}es menos desenvolvidas, principalmente no 
                         Centro-oeste e Norte. Assim, a ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o dessas terras 
                         resultou em grandes convers{\~o}es de florestas em {\'a}reas 
                         destinadas para expans{\~a}o agropecu{\'a}ria. Para mensurar 
                         essa ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o e entender como se distribu{\'{\i}}am, 
                         na d{\'e}cada de 1970, foi implantada a primeira iniciativa de 
                         mapeamento de uso e cobertura da terra denominada RadamBrasil. Com 
                         o avan{\c{c}}o tecnol{\'o}gico e a necessidade de novos 
                         mapeamentos, surgiram outras iniciativas, tais como, PROBIO, 
                         TerraClass, MapBiomas e do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e 
                         Estat{\'{\i}}stica. Os mapeamentos mostram que mesmo utilizando 
                         metodologias distintas, ainda h{\'a} convers{\~a}o da 
                         vegeta{\c{c}}{\~a}o para manuten{\c{c}}{\~a}o de usos 
                         agropecu{\'a}rios, mostrando a import{\^a}ncia de monitorar o 
                         uso das terras no territ{\'o}rio brasileiro. ABSTRACT: In order 
                         for Brazil to develop economically, policies were implemented to 
                         encourage the occupation of less developed regions, mainly in the 
                         Midwest and North. Thus, the occupation of these lands resulted in 
                         large conversions of forests in areas destined for agricultural 
                         expansion. To measure this occupation and to understand how it was 
                         distributed, in the 1970s, the first land use and land cover 
                         mapping initiative called RadamBrasil. With the technological 
                         advance and the need for new mapping, other initiatives have 
                         emerged, such as, PROBIO, TerraClass, MapBiomas and the Brazilian 
                         Institute of Geography and Statistics. The mapping shows that even 
                         using different methodologies, there is still conversion of 
                         vegetation to the maintenance of agricultural uses, showing the 
                         importance of monitoring land use in Brazilian territory.",
