             abstract = "Diamond deposition on steel substrate still is a challenge looking 
                         for a satisfactory solution. Much has already advanced with 
                         various interfaces, but high thermal residual stress is a 
                         persistent problem. This work proposes a vanadium carbide (VC) 
                         intermediate layer deposited by laser cladding. We adjusted laser 
                         cladding parameters for VC deposition to form a multi-layer with 
                         VC cross-section of up to 25 \μm thick. Raman spectroscopy 
                         shows significant stress relief for these thicker VC layers.",
