             abstract = "This thesis introduces agent-based modeling to solve aircraft 
                         assignment problem taking into consideration vehicle efficiency in 
                         terms of fuel consumption, aircraft health condition, and flight 
                         importance. The solution proposed in this thesis assigns aircraft 
                         to routes (set of flights), this thesis assumption is that an 
                         aircraft performance monitoring system provides information on 
                         fuel consumption efficiency and a prognostics and health 
                         monitoring system provides information on aircraft components 
                         health condition. Aircraft components health condition are 
                         aggregated at vehicle level employing a fault tree representation, 
                         which represents systems architecture and components interaction 
                         that could lead to aircraft unavailability. Such information is 
                         used to determine if a vehicle demands no maintenance, 
                         opportunistic or mandatory maintenance. In the proposed model, 
                         mandatory maintenance demands are hard constraints, and 
                         opportunistic maintenance demands are soft constraints. There are 
                         two types of agents in our multi-agent system framework, one 
                         representing aircraft assignment task and other representing 
                         aircraft itself and they interact by following an ascending biding 
                         auction procedure in order to perform a competitive equilibrium 
                         approach. Three different fleets and flight schedules were 
                         considered to simulate six scenarios aiming to validate our 
                         approach. RESUMO: Esta tese apresenta uma modelagem baseada em 
                         sistema multi-agentes para resolver o problema de 
                         aloca{\c{c}}{\~a}o de aeronaves; levando em 
                         considera{\c{c}}{\~a}o o consumo de combust{\'{\i}}vel da 
                         aeronave, a condi{\c{c}}{\~a}o de sa{\'u}de do ve{\'{\i}}culo 
                         e a import{\^a}ncia dos voos a serem executados. A 
                         solu{\c{c}}{\~a}o proposta nessa tese atribui aeronaves a rotas 
                         (conjunto de voos); al{\'e}m disso, esse trabalho assumiu como 
                         premissa a exist{\^e}ncia de um sistema de monitoramento de 
                         desempenho da aeronave que estima a efici{\^e}ncia da aeronave em 
                         termos de consumo de combust{\'{\i}}vel e que tamb{\'e}m existe 
                         um sistema de progn{\'o}stico e monitoramento de sa{\'u}de que 
                         prov{\^e} estimativa da condi{\c{c}}{\~a}o de sa{\'u}de dos 
                         equipamentos do ve{\'{\i}}culo. A informa{\c{c}}{\~a}o de 
                         sa{\'u}de dos equipamentos da aeronave {\'e} agregada a 
                         n{\'{\i}}vel de ve{\'{\i}}culo atrav{\'e}s do uso de uma 
                         {\'a}rvore de falha para representar arquitetura do sistema e a 
                         intera{\c{c}}{\~a}o dos componentes que pode levar a 
                         indisponibilidade da aeronave. Essa informa{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         sumarizada {\'e} utilizada para determinar se o ve{\'{\i}}culo 
                         necessita de manuten{\c{c}}{\~a}o mandat{\'o}ria, preventiva ou 
                         n{\~a}o precisa de manuten{\c{c}}{\~a}o. As demandas de 
                         manuten{\c{c}}{\~a}o mandat{\'o}rias s{\~a}o modeladas como 
                         restri{\c{c}}{\~o}es mandat{\'o}rias e as de 
                         manuten{\c{c}}{\~a}o preventiva como restri{\c{c}}{\~o}es 
                         flex{\'{\i}}veis. Na solu{\c{c}}{\~a}o proposta, h{\'a} dois 
                         tipos de agentes, um representando a atividade de 
                         aloca{\c{c}}{\~a}o de aeronaves e outro representando as 
                         pr{\'o}prias aeronaves. Esses agentes interagem seguindo um 
                         protocolo baseado na abordagem de leil{\~a}o com lances 
                         incrementais a fim de alcan{\c{c}}ar uma condi{\c{c}}{\~a}o de 
                         equil{\'{\i}}brio competitivo. Tr{\^e}s frotas e 
                         programa{\c{c}}{\~o}es de voo s{\~a}o utilizadas para simular 
                         seis cen{\'a}rios para validar a solu{\c{c}}{\~a}o proposta.",
