ResumoThis work describes the attitude and the gyros drift estimation for real satellite CBERS-2 (China Brazil Earth Resources Satellite 2) using the Second-Order Extended H∞ Filter for nonlinear systems. The attitude dynamical model is described by nonlinear equations involving the Euler angles. The attitude sensors available are two DSS (Digital Sun Sensors), two IRES (Infra-Red Earth Sensor), and one triad of mechanical gyros. The two IRES give direct measurements of roll and pitch angles with a certain level of error. The two DSS are mounted on the satellite body such that they are nonlinear functions of roll, pitch, and yaw attitude angles. Herein one proposes to use an extension of the H∞ linear filter for the nonlinear case of attitude estimation with nonlinearity in both the dynamics and the measurement model. The aim is to highlight and magnify the properties of the H∞ filter in terms of its favourable characteristics. The results in this work show that one can reach accuracies in attitude determination within the prescribed requirements, besides providing estimates of the gyro drifts which can be further used to enhance the gyro error model and that the Second-Order Extended H∞ Filter is more robust than Extended Kalman Filter.

ResumoIn this work, we present a methodology for creating an accredited model repository to increase the level of software reuse in the development of Spacecraft Dynamics Simulators (SDS). After a brief introduction of the state-of-the-art on spacecraft simulators and their role in space engineering activities, the paper describes our process for selecting, converting and building a catalogue of models for future reference and reuse. This is demonstrated using a set of models developed for the Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem (AOCS) of Amaznia-1, the first mission that will be based on the Brazilian Multi-Mission Platform. The developed models are implemented in MATLAB R and C++ and the latter are executed by a flexible simulation infrastructure that defines standard interfaces for allowing the rapid reconfiguration of scenario and model interchange. Next, the paper describes case studies of simulations built from models available in the repository, in which the benefits of the repository creation can be valued. The assessed level of software reuse encourages the adoption of the methodology for future projects of SDS.

ResumoThe constant evolution of the electrical and electronics industry, use of its components in products from different areas of the industry has contributed provision of smart products and automated eat and which help us to conduct our activities of the day, from household appliances, toys, medical equipment, traffic among others, are embedded in our society so strongly that often without notice its existence. Most of these devices make use of computer embedded systems, which are components of the systems which are produced with a combination of hardware and software capability to perform extremely important tasks using little computational resources, which most often possess restrictions for their use and for their development because they require specific requirements in accordance with the functionality to be realized. It is use generally adds certain values that are currently indispensable to products that use these components. The use of such systems allows greater flexibility and intelligence to products where they are inserted. The importance of embedded systems in general , it intensifies as embedded in aircraft, radiation therapy machine, space systems among others are considered as critical, where upon failure, can cause major disasters. The dependence of society, different applications and technological developments are delegating all flexibility of these systems for your software component, which makes it even more critical thus requiring appropriate and specific procedures in their production. To ensure its functioning in it is development, should employ processes with defined procedures that meet their particularities, where mistakes can be eliminated or minimized through the activities in all stages of development and not leave to correct them when found. The use of specific and generic practices of CMMI Level 2 - DEV V1.3 model assists in developing a process for managing development that meets the characteristics of embedded system, where its phases and activities carry the good practice suggested by the model and as a result produce templates and documents for seamless integration and operation of software and hardware components of embedded system.

ResumoThis work presents a preliminary method for the evaluation of location accuracy of all Lightning Location System (LLS) in operation in southeastern Brazil (e.g. BrasilDAT, RINDAT, StarNet, WWLLN, GLD360), using natural cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes. This can be done through a multiple high-speed cameras network (RAMMER network) installed in the Paraiba Valley region SP Brazil. The RAMMER network (Automated Multi-camera Network for Monitoring and Study of Lightning) is composed by four high-speed cameras operating at 2,500 frames per second. Three stationary black-and-white (B&W) cameras were situated in the cities of São José dos Campos and Caçapava. A fourth color camera was mobile (installed in a car), but operated in a fixed location during the observation period, within the city of São José dos Campos. The average distance among cameras was 13 kilometers. Each RAMMER sensor position was determined so that the network can observe the same lightning flash from different angles and all recorded videos were GPS (Global Position System) time stamped, allowing comparisons of events between cameras and the LLS. The RAMMER sensor is basically composed by a computer, a Phantom high-speed camera version 9.1 and a GPS unit. The lightning cases analyzed in the present work were observed by at least two cameras, their position was visually triangulated and the results compared with BrasilDAT network, during the summer seasons of 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. The visual triangulation method is presented in details. The calibration procedure showed an accuracy of 9 meters between the accurate GPS position of the object triangulated and the result from the visual triangulation method. Lightning return stroke positions, estimated with the visual triangulation method, were compared with LLS locations. Differences between solutions were not greater than 1.8 km.

ResumoAn analysis of the phenomenology and overall characteristics of 35 cloud-to-ground (CG) strokes that create two or more contact points to the ground in a millisecond scale are presented. This dataset includes both the classical forked strokes (first observed in streak camera records) and the new class of this type of phenomenon, called upward illumination strokes, introduced in more recent works. The broad class of strokes that present two or more contact points in a millisecond and sub-millisecond scale was termed multi ground contact strokes (MGCS) as their geneses are very similar: one branch from the main trunk of a stepped leader produces a second stroke shortly after the first return stroke occurs. Over a five-day campaign, a total of 357 negative CG flashes were recorded by the RAMMER network, which is comprised of four high-speed video cameras (three stationary monochromatic and one mobile colored). They were set up for recording with 1200 x 500 pixels per frame, at 2500 frames per second (390-µs exposure time). From careful visual inspection, 35 MGCS events were found, among which 22 were classified as forked strokes and 13 as UI strokes. RAW data from BrasilDAT network was used to identify and give additional information about the MGCS. After a number of detailed case studies and a review of the recent literature, it was found that the main difference between UI and classical forked stroke events are: a) UI stroke channels present an optical discontinuity from the main trunk during its development (i.e., there was a region of lower or no apparent luminosity between its brighter region and the forking point from the main channel), b) the time between strokes is longer than in the case of classical forked strokes and c) the peak currents of the UI strokes are, usually, very small. Analysis of the relationship between the interstroke interval and peak current added new information on the physical characteristics and distinctive features of UI and forked strokes.

ResumoThe objective of the present work is to analyze one thunderstorm day that produced lightning with peculiar characteristi cs, different from those commonly found in other works on the literature. The data was obtained by the RAMMER network, composed by four high - speed cameras, during the summer of 2012/2013 in the city of São José dos Campos, Brazil. The relatively large numb er of high - speed cameras has enabled us to record a statistically significant amount of negative cloud - to - ground lightning flashes per thunderstorm day. We chose as control - cases the five days that had the highest amount of lightning recorded by the camera s, making a total of 361 flashes. The analysis was performed in two ways, the first one considering the control - cases and the second one considering only the case study. After analyzing all lightning data we found that the geometric mean of the flash durat ion was 270 ms, the average multiplicity was 4.3 and the percentage of single strokes was 20.8% (75 events ). These values are similar to those found in previous single - station studies for the same region. The case study of this work is February 22 nd , 2013, which had a sample size of 55 negative cloud - to - ground lightning. The visible lightning characteristics for this day were: a) flash duration geometric mean of 193 ms; b) an average multiplicity of 2.8; and c) a percentage of single stroke flashes, around 36.4% (20). Also, an evaluation of the sample obtained on that day was performed using lightning location system BrasilDAT. After the evaluation of the statistical tests, we point out the following three hypotheses which will be addressed in the work: a) s ynoptic condition of the day: the weather phenomenon acting in the region during that day may have favored the formation of clouds with smaller vertical development, thus leading to temporally shorter and single - stroke flashes; b) region of occurrence of l ightning: the topography can influence the formation of clouds in order to create the necessary conditions for the occurrence of anomalous features; and c) observation period: it is possible that the flashes have been observed during the initial phase of t he development of the thunder clouds, which would be directly related to observed characteristics. Satellite and radar images will also be used as complementarily tools for the analysis, which is currently under development.

ResumoThis work describes an Artificial Intelligence based technique to prepare data for constructing a climate prediction empirical model from reanalysis data in the South region of Brazil using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The method uses Rough Sets Theory (RST) to reduce the amount of variables. The input of ANN there is two kinds of data: the variables chosen by the RST and full variables data to learn the seasonal behavior of the variable precipitation.

ResumoIn this paper we present experimental results obtained by the use of the method Lightning Mapping Array with Electric Field measurements on ground (LMA-EF). This method allows to measure the positions and magnitudes of the electric charges (Q) inside the thunderstorm clouds. The data used to validate the experiment were provided by the Vale do Paraiba CHUVA (Cloud processes of tHe main precipitation systems in Brazil: A contribUtion to cloud resolVing modeling and to the GPM (GlobAl Precipitation Measurement) ) project campaign, that took place in São Paulo - Brazil between December of 2011 and January of 2012. The LMA data can provide us the position (R) of the electric charges centers and a network of electric field mill provides data of electric field (E). Combining LMA data with the measurements of electric field on the ground is possible to determine the magnitude of the electric charges, by using the inversion of the coulomb law in matrix form: Q = (RT .R)-1 .RT .E. An algorithm was written to make this estimation automatically. After the determination of the electric charge structure, the algorithm recalculates the direct Coulombs Law and checks the results by fitting data of electric field on ground.
