ResumoWireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are often composed of a wide range of sensor nodes, which may vary greatly in their type of hardware platform, as well as their sensing and mobility capabilities. The ability of a sensor to move is a particularly important feature in dynamic scenarios, since mobile sensors can fill the gap caused by the failures of those that are stationary, and thus extend the lifetime and span of a WSN. However, there remains the problems of intersensory communication in the field when integrating mobile sensors into the Sensor Web in dynamic scenarios since it does not have the necessary interoperability for automatically managing the different types of sensor data and activities involved in such scenarios. This paper tackles this problem by adopting an approach consisting of an enhanced messaging protocol and a dynamic sensor management component. In validating the proposal, two different realistic scenarios were simulated to evaluate the achieved results in terms of interoperability and performance. The results provided evidence that the proposal complies with Sensor Web standards as well as being suitable for near real-time data publication, and is thus able to support applications in dynamic scenarios.

This article explores the use of nonlinear geostatistical procedures, known as kriging and simulation indicator approaches, for spatial modeling of categorical attributes. The categorical information is initially represented by a set of sample points observed within a spatial region of interest. The original sample set is used to generate indicator fields take into account the classes of the categorical data. The indicator fields, or indicator samples, contain 0 and 1 attribute values according to the class they are representing. Empirical and theoretical semivariograms are built from the indicator samples to represent the spatial variation of each class in relation to the others. The geostatistical procedures, making use of the samples and the theoretical semivariograms, allow obtaining an approximation of the stochastic model, the conditioned probability distribution function (cpdf) of the categorical attribute at any desired spatial location. From any cpdf it is possible to assess optimal prediction, or estimate, and uncertainty values associated to the stochastic model. Optimal prediction as mean, median or any quantile values can be assessed. Uncertainty values are obtained by means of the maximum cpdf probability, Shannon entropy, or another criterion. The uncertainty values can be used to qualify the predictions and can also be considered to generate constrained spatial predictions, or constrained classifications, that are important in decision makings related to environmental planning activities, for example. The concepts here presented are applied and tested in a case study developed for a sample set of soil texture observed in an experimental farm in the region of São Carlos city in São Paulo State, Brazil. Four classes of soil texture are considered, sandy, medium clay, clay and too clay, in order to get the cpdf values. Some maps derived by constraints are presented and analyzed considering different probability values from the attribute stocha.

In general terms, big data is defined as data requiring high management capabilities characterized by 3 Vs: Volume, Velocity and Variety. In the past, (e.g. 1975), considering the computational and databases resources available, a series of Landsat-1 imagery from the same region could be considered big data. Nowadays, several satellites are available, and they produce massive amounts of data. Certainly, an image data set obtained by a single satellite, for a specific region and along time, fills the 3 Vs requirements to be considered big data as well. In order to deal with remote sensing big data, we propose to explore the generation of metadata based on the detection of simple features. Besides the intrinsic geographic information on every remote sensing scene, no additional metadata is usually considered. We propose basic image processing algorithms to detect basic well-known patterns, and include them as tags, such as cloud, shadow, stadium, vegetation, and water, according to what is detectable at each spatial resolution. In this work we show preliminary results using imagery from RapidEye sensor, with 5 meter spatial resolution, composed by two full coverages of Brazil with RapidEye multispectral imagery (around 40k scenes).

ResumoThis work presents an investigation of ground deformation measurements based on a combination of DInSAR TimeSeries (DTS) and PSI (Persistent Scatterer Interferometry) techniques, applied in a large area of the open pit iron mines located in Carajás Mineral Province (Brazilian Amazon Region). These mines have presented a historical of instability and surface monitoring measurements over sectors of the mines (pit walls) have been carried out based on ground based radar and total station (prisms). PSI processing technique involves the temporal phase unwrapping process, which is a very important stage to determine ground movement accurately. Limitations in this process can be found especially for detection of high movement rates. By using a priori information regarding the topographic phase error and phase displacement model, temporal phase unwrapping in the PSI processing can be performed more efficiently. In this study we used a combination of DTS and PSI techniques aim at detecting high rate of linear and non linear ground movement. The DTS results provided the first estimate of the topographic error and the phase displacement model for the PSI analysis using the IPTA technique (Gamma RS software). A set of 33 TerraSAR-X-1 images, acquired during the period from March 2012 to April 2013 (dry and wet seasons), was used to perform this investigation in the Carajás mining area. Due to complex topography of the site (deep excavations, high waste piles, etc.), a high resolution DEM was generated based on a stereo GeoEye-1 pair in order to decrease the topography phase error in the analysis. The DTS analysis was carried out on a stack of multi-look unwrapped interferogram using an extension of the SVD to obtain the Least-Square solution. A set of additional weighted constrain on the acceleration of the surface was used to control the smoothness of the time-series solutions aiming to correct the atmospheric phase artifacts and estimate the height errors based on the normal baseline diversity. The height errors and deformation rates provided by the DInSAR timeseries approach were subtracted from the stack of original interferogram to perform the PSI analysis. This procedure improved the capability of the PSI analysis to detect non linear deformation as well as increased the numbers of point density of the final results. The results of the individual and combined techniques are presented and highlighted. A High deformation rates were detected over the waste piles (deformation rate up to -526.5 mm/year), which is normally expected for this manmade structure. Non linear deformation was also detected along benches and ramps (deformation rate up to -255.7 mm/ year), which is associated with surface movement evidences (fractures on bench walls, cracks on bench surfaces and road ramps), which is associated with deep excavation on low quality geomechanical ore/rock masses. Structural control given by trending shear zone and trending fault system could also be associated with these movements. The proposed methodology showed good results for monitoring surface displacement in a large mining area, which is located in a rain forest environment, providing very useful information about the ground movement planning and risks assessment.
