AbstractThe publication of the System Modelling and Simulation (ECSS-E-TM-10-21A) allowed the evaluation of simulation tools developed in the context of space projects at INPE, the Brazilian Institute for Space Research. The main goals of this evaluation were to provide INPE simulators classification and to assess their scope for future re-using. Three simulators currently being developed at INPE were chosen to be evaluated. Starting from the classification, it was measured the effort needed to use these simulators for other space missions phases. Moreover, we have evaluated how the adoption of Simulator Model Platform (SMP) standard could reduce development effort duplication in INPEs simulators. The analysis was conducted following these steps: (i) requirements analysis, in which metrics and weights for each ECSS-E-TM-10-21A requirement were defined in order to allow comparisons; (ii) simulator classification based on compliance or not with each requirement; (iii) SMP standard compliance evaluation, aiming to measure the intersection of its requirements with the requirements covered by the evaluated simulators. The results showed that the adoption of SMP standard would reduce the effort employed in the development of the analysed simulators and would also increase their flexibility in covering various missions and various mission phases. For the evaluated simulators, this adoption would still facilitate the common models reuse which is an already recognized SMP adoption advantage.

AbstractAvailable data demonstrates that defective requirements are a dominant cause of cost and schedule problem on aerospace programs. This work presents results obtained from a particularly study of a Requirement Evaluation Metric applied on a small technological satellite called ITASAT-1. The requirement evaluation metric is a structured methodology for measuring the quality of requirements, individually and collectively by means of 10 (ten) individual quality metrics. The paper describes the satellite mission, the Requirement Evaluation Metric used, and how it was applied. In addition, the requirement engineering process is shown in terms of the problem statement. The main contribution of this study is the establishment of a Requirement Evaluation Metric on a systematic approach to refine a critical satellite requirements operation for space applications, called COFI-ref.

AbstractThis paper describes an environment that integrates tools to generate, execute and manage data of software testing into a single knowledge base. These tools aim to support different activities of verification and validation of CMMi. The proposal uses free tools and unifies the information generated during the planning of tests, the description of the testing requirements and defect management. The environment has been proposed to suit the needs of a critical software systems test laboratory for space applications at INPE.

AbstractThe space area community has a strong interest in reducing costs related to control of satellites. However, the cost reduction is a goal difficult to achieve due to some characteristics of the satellite control facilities. In this environment, ground stations send telecommand to satellite during the periods of visibility. Apart from the cost restrictions, the ground stations can track multiple satellites, and consequently, scheduling conflicts may occur between different satellite passes over the same ground station. In particular case of INPE Brazilian National Institute for Space Research, there is a concern to increase the reliability of mission operations, which in some cases are still manually performed. There is a great demand to implement planning methods and automatic control. Due to this set of requirements, which highlight the complexity of this environment, and the need to reduce costs associated with the satellite control, this paper proposes an architecture consisting of modules that manage the allocation of ground resources for tracking multiple satellites and plan to control operations of these satellites. This architecture adopts concepts and technical planning of the Artificial Intelligence area to generate plans aiming at solving the satellite control problem.
