AbstractA transformada wavelet biortogonal e as bases wavelet são uma poderosa ferramenta para análise de dados multiescala, que tem vastas aplicações na física, matemática, computação e tecnologias. A teoria wavelet é construída, não apenas com o uso de uma nova e brilhante ideia, mas pela sinergia de conceitos e necessidades que já existiam a algum tempo em diferentes áreas do conhecimento científico. Dessa forma, neste artigo, apresenta-se conceitos e exemplos de técnicas wavelets biortogonais que podem ser de grande interesse para vários tipos de estudos da comunidade física brasileira, servindo igualmente a outras áreas correlatas. Este texto destina-se, em especial, a pesquisadores, professores e estudantes de pós-graduação, com possibilidades de atender, ainda, estudantes do último ano de graduação. ABSTRACT The biorthogonal wavelet transform and wavelet bases are a powerful tool for multiscale data analysis, which has many applications in physics, mathematics, and computing technologies. The wavelet theory is constructed not only with the use of a new idea, but with the synergy of concepts and needs in different areas of scientific knowledge. Therefore, this work presents introductory concepts and examples of biorthogonal wavelets techniques that can be of great interest for various types of studies of Brazilian physics community, serving also to other related areas. This text is written, in particular, to researchers, teachers, graduate students and last years under graduate students.
