ResumoThe evidences for ElectroMagnetic Ion Cyclotron (EMIC) waves as responsible to reconfigure electron pitch angle distribution (PAD) shapes in the outer Van Allen Radiation Belts were recently endorsed in a case study reported by Medeiros et al. (2019). It was shown that EMIC waves were contributing to further enhance the reduction of the measured flux of relativistic electrons at higher (>135º and < 45º) equatorial pitch angles, which in turn has been claimed as the cause for a rearrangement of the previously measured electron PAD shape into a peculiar butterfly-shaped PAD. Several studies have been confirming the relevance of this wave-particle interaction. The purpose of this study is try to find evidences that corroborates with the Medeiros et al., (2019) analysis by considering a longer time interval during the Van Allen Probes era. To obtain such results a neural network-based routine was developed to automatically (and successfully) find EMIC waves in Van Allen Probes magnetometer data. The EMIC waves occurrence pattern, as obtained by this neural network technique, will then be used as input for another neural network-based approach proposed by Souza et al. (2016) in order to correlate the reconfiguration of electron PAD shapes with EMIC waves occurrence.

ResumoThis paper presents results of the application of the Systems Concurrent Engineering (SCE) process in a System of Systems scenario, focused on the space segment of a satellite constellation designed to detect and monitor conflagrations of fire at the Brazilian Amazon rain forest. The project consists of a constellation of formations of CubeSats which are capable of performing the necessary tasks at a lower cost and with smaller revisit times, allowing almost real time monitoring of the rain forest by forest surveillance teams and other stakeholders. By taking advantage of the systems concurrent engineering method, it was possible to anticipate relevant issues which would not have been dealt with during the initial systems engineering phases of the process. The method provided a way to systematically analyze stakeholders, requirements, functions and architectures for the product and the organization life cycle comprised of systems engineering activities for a complex satellite system. This paper describes the process instantiation for the product nominal operational scenario, while the complete project contains several product life cycle process scenarios of different perspectives, including development and nondevelopment organizations as well as operational and non-operational product scenarios. We also identify possible method improvements based on data science and artificial intelligence techniques, as a historical analysis of the development data would be valuable and could bring predictions of periods that require more resources to handle critical situations, and that could lead to new requirements for the mission. Practical example of the method application also involves the TIM (Telematics International Mission) project, related to a formation of small satellites. This presents the Systems Concurrent Engineering (SCE) process as an alternative to traditional Systems Engineering, and it shows the lessons learned when applying the method for System of Systems.

ResumoSatellite Control Systems (SCS) are responsible for maintaining theproper functioning of orbiting satellites. These systems are constantly evol-ving architecturally to meet interoperability requirements and technological ad-vances in satellites. The Satellite Control Center (CCS) of the National Institutefor Space Research (INPE) has been proposing and developing software solu-tions for this domain since 1980. Thus, the purpose of this report is to presentthe history of the architectural and technological evolution of the SCS developedby CCS. The architectural advance in this domain has evolved to the establish-ment of a Reference Architecture for Satellite Control Systems, which has shownbenefits of architectural reuse and reduced efforts during the development andintegration phases. RESUMO: Sistemas de Controle de Satélites (SCS) são responsáveis por manter o funcionando adequado dos satélites em ́orbita. Esses sistemas estão emconstante evolução arquitetural para atender requisitos de interoperabilidade e os avanços tecnológicos dos satélites. O Centro de Controle de Satélites (CCS) do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) vem propondo e desenvolvendo soluções de softwares para este domíno desde 1980. Assim, o objetivo deste relato é apresentar o histórico da evolução arquitetural e tecnológica dos SCS desenvolvidos pelo CCS. O avanç̧o arquitetural neste domínio tem evoluído para o estabelecimento de um Arquitetura de Referência para Sistemas de Controle de Satélites, a qual tem apresentado benefícios do reúso arquitetural e a redução de esforços durante as fases de desenvolvimento e integração.

ResumoThe Galileo Solar Space Telescope (GSST) is a cornerstone mission to provide accurate measurements of the magnetic field in the photosphere and outer layers of the solar atmosphere to be proposed to the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) within the international effort to understand of the evolution of the Heliosphere. The solar electromagnetic and corpuscular emissions are strongly modulated by the evolution of the magnetic structure of the solar atmosphere. The solar magnetism is driven by the energy transport from the inner layers of the Sun to its atmosphere. Although systematic observations since the invention of the telescope have revealed several features related to the evolution of solar activity, there is not a complete explanation of the physical processes that lead to solar activity cyclic variability and its long-term changes. Here we describe the status of the proposal submitted to the INPE's Steering Committee. The underlying basic questions to be addressed by the GSST mission are: What are the fundamental physical/plasma processes at work in the Sun? How does the solar dynamo work? What is the relative contribution of different physical processes that lead to the heating of the outer layers (Chromosphere to Corona)? What are the effects of the magnetic structure of the outer layers of the Sun on the evolution of the Earth's highly coupled atmosphere-ocean system? What is the response of the magnetic field and energetic particles in the vicinity of our planet, i.e. the Earths inner magnetosphere region, due to different solar wind structures? Taking into account these open scientific questions, the Galileo Solar Space Telescope proposed mission is to perform solar observations in high spatial and temporal resolution to characterize the evolution of the magnetic structure of the photosphere, chromosphere, transition region, and corona and its impact on the Geospace. Specifically, the mission has three main objectives: (1) Contribute to the understanding of the evolution of the magnetic structure of the Sun; (2) Contribute to the understanding of the Sun's influence on Earth's Climate; and, (3) Contribute to the understanding of the Sun's impact on the Geospace.
