| Resumo | Interest in amazon rain-forest satellite monitoring has been growing in recent years as a consequence of the worldwide recognition of the ecological and economical importance of that region the increasing needs for both spatial and temporal resolutions in remote sensing applications such as the monitoring of deforestation, forest-fire, river flooding and desertification activities, directed the efforts of the Brazilian government and the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) towards the development of the SSR (remote sensing satellite) mission, described in this paper along with the ssr satellite main features this mission consists in the observation of the Amazon region by a small satellite (about 250 kg) in a circular (about 900 km height), equatorial orbit. |
