| Resumo | The so called "Castanhao", an artificial lake of approximately 50 km by 9 km area for storage of water in the semiarid region of the Ceara state at northeast region of Brazil (NEB) is planned to be concluded by the end of 1999. This paper is intended to through light on the effects of the lake on possible microclimate changes in the region. Upstream from its dam, the lake will cover all the area bellow 100m of altitude, and its center will be located approximately at 5 37'12"S and 38 36'16"W. The Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS) is used to simulate the atmospheric conditions over that region with and without the lake. Different from the simulation with no lake, the simulation with the lake showed an increase of precipitation on its western side. This increase in precipitation at that position seems to happen due to advection effects coupled with lake effects. |
