| Resumo | One of equipment used to monitor the changes of ownership of territorial space and through the use of orbital images acquired by remote sensing. One of the major acquirements obtained from this science is a map of the vegetation cover and land use, produced by digital image processing. In this context, this study describes the use of satellite images for the mapping of an area representing the Cerrado biome in the state of Tocantins, to identify the various classes of vegetation of this phyisisognomy,and for this reason it was decided that the classification would not be supervised by the use of algoreithm ISODATE. The classification of the area under study proved to be quite hetorogenia, allowing the occurence of many classes of phytophisisognomy of the Cerrado. The presented spectral confusion among some of the classes such as the field and planted pastures, urban area and exposed soil. Even with certain limitations, the accuracy of the mapping was considered very good, with the co-efficient Kappa of 62.25%. It was found that 63.5% of the area was covered with natural vegetation of preserved Cerrado, which is the sum of the classes: 1) Forest (forest formations an association of classes of Ciliar Forest, Galeria Forest and Cerrado); 2) Dense Cerrado; 3) Typical Cerrado; 4) Light Cerrado. The area in question has shown us to be a potential area of research and of biodiversity preservation of this biome, principally, if the secondary class of vegetation, of 9.3%, is included. | |||
