             abstract = "This paper analyzes the formation of heat islands in Cuiab{\'a} - 
                         MT, capital of Mato Grosso, due to the rapid urbanization of the 
                         metropolitan area, which has caused changes in land cover and 
                         surface temperatures. For this study was used used two images with 
                         temporal variations of three years, collected during the dry 
                         northeast region, through the Thematic Mapper sensor on board the 
                         Landsat 5 satellite. Using the thermal band which is related to 
                         the infrared channel, the figures were transformed digital 
                         temperature data surface by means of the software Matlab. The 
                         results show that the behavior of tenperatura surface in more 
                         densely populated areas of the city is becoming similar to the 
                         downtown area, usually the location of the most affected by the 
                         process of formation of heat islands cities.",
