Esta t{\'e}cnica {\'e} aplicada em {\'{\i}}ndices de TSM do
Atl{\^a}ntico Tropical Norte (ATN), Atl{\^a}ntico Tropical Sul
(ATS) e da diferen{\c{c}}a entre os {\'{\i}}ndices do ATN e ATS
(DTNS). Os {\'{\i}}ndices do ATN e do ATS apresentam picos
dominantes na escala decadal. O fato de que as vari{\^a}ncias
decadais significativas do {\'{\i}}ndice DTNS, em geral,
correspondem a vari{\^a}ncias significativas ou do
{\'{\i}}ndice do ATN ou do ATS, confirma a independ{\^e}ncia da
variabilidade decadal de TSM nos dois setores do AT.
Exce{\c{c}}{\~a}o a isso {\'e} notada no per{\'{\i}}odo de
1970 a 1985 quando ocorrem vari{\^a}ncias decadais significativas
para os {\'{\i}}ndices do ATN e ATS. Contudo, as
ocorr{\^e}ncias simult{\^a}neas de vari{\^a}ncias
significativas para os {\'{\i}}ndices DTNS, ATN e ATS n{\~a}o
necessariamente implicam no estabelecimento do padr{\~a}o de
dipolo ou em conex{\~o}es din{\^a}micas entre o ATN e ATS. As
caracter{\'{\i}}sticas de propaga{\c{c}}{\~a}o de anomalias de
TSM no AT s{\~a}o similares {\`a}quelas descritas anteriormente
para as escalas interanual curta e decadal. ABSTRACT:
Short-interannual to decadal variability of the Tropical Atlantic
(TA) sea surface temperature (SST) is studied using the Continuous
Wavelet Transform (CWT). This technique is applied on the SST
indices in the Tropical North Atlantic (TNA) and in the Tropical
South Atlantic (TSA) and on the difference between the TNA and TSA
indices (TNSD). The decadal peaks are dominant for the TNA and TSA
indices. The fact that the significant decadal variances of the
TNSD index, in general, have correspondence to the significant
variances of either the TNA index or TSA index, confirms the
independence of the decadal SST variability in the two sides of
the TA. Exception to this is noted during 1970-1985 when
significant decadal variances occur for the TNA and TSA indices.
Nevertheless, the simultaneous occurrences of significant
variances for the TNSD, TNA and TSA indices not necessarily imply
in the establishment of a dipole-like pattern or in the dynamical
connections between the TNA and TSA. The SST propagation features
are similar to those described previously for the SST anomalies in
the TA for the short-interannual and decadal scales.",
