abstract = "The satellites of the series NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmosferic
Administration) in addition to meteorological satellites can be
also considered as environmental satellite, as it can be used in
calculating the index of vegetation, calculating the temperature
of the soil surface, measuring the temperature of the surface sea,
prevention and detection of fires, monitoring of water,
desertification, among others. This work has been to analyze the
images of the sensor AVHRR 3 of the satellites NOAA-17 and
NOAA-18, to obtain data on the water surface temperature in the
reservoir of Sobradinho, which is located in Bahia, in the region
Northeastern Brazil. For NOAA17 the composition in RGB with the
bands 1, 2 and 3 it was observed that water bodies showed up in
dark tones because of the high absorption of Electromagnetic
Radiation incident (> 95%) for water in the the visible
electromagnetic spectrum. RGB in the composition of the NOAA-18
with the bands 1, 2 and 4 it was observed that water bodies showed
up in dark red tones and / or light. This is due to the fact that
the bands correspond to a range of spa. So the images of the
NOAA-18 had been very favorable for monitoring the change in
                         temperature over water surface.",
