                         Engine permitiram a gera{\c{c}}{\~a}o de s{\'e}ries 
                         hist{\'o}ricas globais de superf{\'{\i}}cie de {\'a}gua, 
                         notavelmente o Global Surface Water (GSW) e, mais recente, o 
                         Global Surface Water Dynamics. Apesar dos avan{\c{c}}os para o 
                         entendimento da din{\^a}mica de superf{\'{\i}}cie de {\'a}gua 
                         trazidos por essas bases, h{\'a} desafios para a 
                         aplica{\c{c}}{\~a}o direta destes dados nas escalas de 
                         pa{\'{\i}}ses, regional e local. Os dados n{\~a}o s{\~a}o 
                         atualizados regularmente, a integra{\c{c}}{\~a}o com cadastros 
                         nacionais n{\~a}o {\'e} direta, e corpos h{\'{\i}}dricos de 
                         pequeno porte (1-5 hectares) n{\~a}o s{\~a}o mapeados. A 
                         iniciativa MapBiomas {\'A}gua {\'e} a primeira iniciativa 
                         nacional que tem como objetivo reconstruir a s{\'e}rie 
                         hist{\'o}rica de corpos h{\'{\i}}dricos do Brasil, e 
                         disponibilizar dados mensais de superf{\'{\i}}cie de {\'a}gua, 
                         e suas transi{\c{c}}{\~o}es e tend{\^e}ncias, desde 1985. Neste 
                         estudo, apresentamos a metodologia e os resultados da 
                         Cole{\c{c}}{\~a}o 1.0 do mapeamento de superf{\'{\i}}cie de 
                         {\'a}gua dos biomas brasileiros. ABSTRACT: The availability of 
                         Landsat data and the Google Earth Engine platform have enabled the 
                         generation of global historical surface water series, notably 
                         Global Surface Water (GSW) and, more recently, Global Surface 
                         Water Dynamics. Despite the advances in the understanding of water 
                         surface dynamics brought by these bases, there are challenges to 
                         the direct application of these data at country, regional and 
                         local scales. Data are not regularly updated, integration with 
                         national cadastres is not direct, and small water bodies (1-5 
                         hectares) are not mapped. The MapBiomas {\'A}gua initiative is 
                         the first national initiative that aims to reconstruct the 
                         historical series of water bodies in Brazil, and make available 
                         monthly water surface data, and their transitions and trends, 
                         since 1985. In this study, we present the methodology and results 
                         of Collection 1.0 of the water surface mapping of Brazilian 
                         biomes.",
