considerada como tectonicamente est{\'a}vel, dada sua
localiza{\c{c}}{\~a}o na margem passiva da placa Sulamericana.
Grande parte desse registro neotect{\^o}nico ocorre na Bacia
Para{\'{\i}}ba, caracterizada por altos e baixos topogr{\'a}fi
cos e por sistemas de drenagem com fei{\c{c}}{\~o}es
an{\^o}malas. Publica{\c{c}}{\~o}es pr{\'e}vias propuseram que
cursos fl uviais terminais desta bacia, como {\'e} o caso dos
rios Para{\'{\i}}ba e Mamanguape, est{\~a}o confi nados a
grabens. Por{\'e}m, faltam dados geol{\'o}gicos e
geomorfol{\'o}gicos que comprovem essa interpreta{\c{c}}{\~a}o.
Este trabalho re{\'u}ne informa{\c{c}}{\~o}es estratigr{\'a}fi
cas de subsuperf{\'{\i}}cie com dados morfoestruturais que
permitem sustentar a hip{\'o}tese de controle neotect{\^o}nico
no desenvolvimento dos cursos terminais dos rios Para{\'{\i}}ba
e Mamanguape. Para isso, a an{\'a}lise morfoestrutural derivada
de produtos de sensoriamento remoto foi integrada com a
correla{\c{c}}{\~a}o estratigr{\'a}fi ca regional com base em
dados de subsuperf{\'{\i}}cie. A an{\'a}lise morfoestrutural
revelou lineamentos compat{\'{\i}}veis com a
orienta{\c{c}}{\~a}o de estruturas tect{\^o}nicas regionais
dominantes no nordeste brasileiro, bem como uma variedade de
anomalias de drenagem. A correla{\c{c}}{\~a}o estratigr{\'a}fi
ca mostrou varia{\c{c}}{\~o}es expressivas nas espessuras dos
estratos sedimentares em curtas dist{\^a}ncias, que s{\~a}o
sugestivas de falhas. Atividades tect{\^o}nicas teriam ocorrido
no Ne{\'o}geno, ou seja, durante a deposi{\c{c}}{\~a}o da
Forma{\c{c}}{\~a}o Barreiras, bem como no Quatern{\'a}rio
tardio, ap{\'o}s a deposi{\c{c}}{\~a}o dos Sedimentos
P{\'o}sBarreiras. Portanto, o mais prov{\'a}vel {\'e} que o
estabelecimento dos vales fl uviais dos rios Para{\'{\i}}ba e
Mamanguape tenha ocorrido em grabens formados por
reativa{\c{c}}{\~o}es de falhas pr{\'e}-existentes no
embasamento pr{\'e}cambriano. ABSTRACT: Geomorphological and
geological evidences of neotectonic activity have increased in
several areas of northeastern Brazil, despite that this region is
regarded as tectonically stable due to its location in the passive
margin of the South American plate. The majority of this
neotectonic record occurs in the Para{\'{\i}}ba Basin, which is
characterized by topographic highs and lows and by drainage
systems with anomalous features. Previous studies have proposed
that terminal rivers in this basin, such as the Mamanguape and
Para{\'{\i}}ba Rivers, are confi ned to grabens. However, there
is still an overall lack of geomorphological and geological data
to support this interpretation. This work integrates subsurface
stratigraphic information and morphostructural data that allow to
support the hypothesis of neotectonic control on the development
of the terminal courses of the Mamanguape and Para{\'{\i}}ba
Rivers. To approach this issue, morphostructural analysis derived
from remote sensing products was integrated with stratigraphic
data. The morphostructural analysis revealed lineaments consistent
with the regional tectonic trends that prevail in northeastern
Brazil, as well as a variety of drainage anomalies. The
stratigraphic correlation showed signifi cant variation in the
thicknesses of the sedimentary strata at short distances
suggestive of faults. Tectonic activity would have occurred during
the deposition of the Barreiras Formation in the Neogene and after
the deposition of the Post-Barreiras Sediments in the late
Quaternary. Therefore, the most likely is that the establishment
of the Para{\'{\i}}ba and Mamanguape river valleys occurred in
grabens formed by reactivation of faults pre-existing in the
Precambrian basement.",
