fronteira agr{\'{\i}}cola da Amaz{\^o}nia brasileira. Como
objetivos espec{\'{\i}}ficos pode-se listar a
a informa{\c{c}}{\~a}o contida em imagens SAR multipolarizadas
componente principal (PC) destes dados.
{\'{\i}}ndices \textit{Kappas} estatisticamente superiores ao
da imagem LANDSAT5/TM. Neste cen{\'a}rio destacaram-se os
m{\'e}todos de fus{\~o}es \textit{Ehlers, Wavelet {\'a}
trous}, IHS e SPC (\textit{Selective principal component
analysis}).
atributos SAR selecionados, mostrando assim a aplicabilidade do
SAR. Baseado nas an{\'a}lises dos {\'{\i}}ndices
todas as classes definidas neste estudo.
No geral, as classes
ALOS/PALSAR est{\'a} envolvida no processo. As classes de
regenera{\c{c}}{\~a}o intermedi{\'a}ria e inicial foram melhor
As classes
ABSTARCT: This study aims to asses
different ways for data integration (fusions and combinations) of
different imagery sensor (SAR and optical) in order to identify
the most appropriate for mapping land use and land cover in an
agricultural frontier region of the Brazilian Amazon. The
secondary goals are to identify the classes that are better
discriminated with the use of SAR and optical data together and
also to evaluate the procedure of integrating the information of
multipolarized SAR data before the fusion process, using the first
principal component (PC) of these data. To achieve these goals 90
distinct image classifications were performed: 2 original images
(LANDSAT5/TM and ALOS/PALSAR), 2 images composed by the attributes
extracted from the original images, 6 combined images and 80 fused
images by different methods. Several classifications of fused and
combined images presented statistically higher \textit{Kappa}
values than that of LANDSAT5/TM classification. The fusion methods
to be highlighted were \textit{Ehlers, Wavelet {\'a} trous}, IHS
e SPC (Selective principal component analysis). However the latter
three methods showed good results only when the fusion process
where performed using the first principal component of ALOS/PALSAR
image bands, or of the three attributes extracted from radar
images, showing the applicability of the proposed method of
integrating information from SAR data. Based on the analysis of
the \textit{Kappa} coefficients per class it was concluded that
the use of optical and SAR data together improves the
classification results for all classes. However, the methods that
best discriminate one single class were different for each class.
In general, the forested classes were better discriminated by the
\textit{Ehlers} fusion method in which at least the HV band of
ALOS/PALSAR image was involved in the fusion process. The
intermediate and initial regeneration classes were better
discriminated by the SPC fusion method using the first PC of
ALOS/PALSAR image bands. The bare soil, soybeans ready for
harvest, clean pasture and dirty pasture classes were better
discriminated by the IHS fusion method using the optical
attributes and the first PC of ALOS/PALSAR image bands. The class
of soybean with 40 days of seeding was better discriminated by the
classification using only the ALOS/PALSAR image. It was also
concluded that the HV band contains valuable information to
improve the discrimination of classes, because this band was
present in most of the fusion methods with high values of
classification accuracies.",
