respectivamente e difus{\~a}o vertical local.
(Murici2008) e chuvoso (GPM2010) no CLA, no Maranh{\~a}o. As
compara{\c{c}}{\~o}es s{\~a}o feitas entre as m{\'e}dias das
componentes zonal e meridional do vento observadas e simuladas. Os
no per{\'{\i}}odo chuvoso e o superestimam em m{\'e}dia 18\%
no per{\'{\i}}odo seco as componentes zonal e meridional.
para o per{\'{\i}}odo chuvoso.

ABSTRACT: The wind regime
and conditions of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) in
Alc{\^a}ntara Launch Center (ALC) are studied in order to offer
better performance in wind forecasting. The observational results
obtained in this study were in agreement with previous
observational studies of the CLA. The sensitivity of simulations
to changes in the planetary boundary layer (PBL) parameterization
is investigated using the modified fifth generation Pennsylvania
State University-NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5) and observations from
two field campaigns in distinct periods. Three boundary layer
parameterizations, in addition to the current parameterization,
were selected for evaluation, of which two (Blackadar (BLK) and
Medium Range Forecast (MRF) schemes) are simple non-local first
order schemes, ETA and BT are schemes of closure order 1.5 and 2,
respectively, and local vertical diffusion. The data are from two
experiments which occurred during the dry (Murici2008) and wet
(GPM2010) seasons at the ALC, in Maranh{\~a}o. The comparisons
are made among the means of the zonal and meridional components of
observed and simulated winds. The MRF and BLK schemes produced
better results than the ETA and BT schemes. Nevertheless, MRF and
BLK underestimate the zonal and meridional wind components by
around 16\% in the rainy season and overestimate them by on
average 18\% in the dry season. The results suggest that there is
a small improvement in the general accuracy of the predictions
with the adjustments of friction velocity and climatological
roughness of the ALC implemented in the MRF and BLK
parameterizations, respectively. Effectively, there was an
improvement in the wind prediction at the ALC for the rainy
season. On the other hand, for the dry season, gains from the
changes proposed in this work were not clear, and new adjustments
in the MRF or BLK parameterizations combined with other physics
options, principally radiation, are needed in the MM5 model.",
