abstract = "This work aims to promote the monitoring of the expansion of land
used for planting the crop of sugar cane in the Morro Agudo, SP
for the periods 1993, 2003 and 2009. The national agricultural
production is an important economic factor. Thus, profound changes
taking place and space just highlights the need for further
studies on the subject, due to its coverage on various issues. To
conduct the research, images from sensor Thematic Mapper (TM)
aboard Landsat 5, imported and registered to a system
Georeferenced Information Processing (SPRING). Were provided by
the project CANASAT two thematic maps of cane sugar in the county
for the years 2003 and 2009. It established a series and it was
possible to validate the data from the Agricultural Economic
Institute (IEA) indicated that the increase in areas planted with
sugar cane. The remote sensing techniques allowed the
identification of sugar cane which in 1993 had 68,629.53 hectares,
has expanded to 94,870.03 ha in 2003 and peaked at 107,875.61
hectares. It may be noted that in 2003 the area for the production
of sugar cane grew 38.3% compared to 1993, representing the
largest growth periods studied, since expansion in 2009 was 13.8 %
compared to the area occupied in 2003. This is related to the fact
that sugar cane is no more areas to expand in Morro Agudo, in 2009
represented 77.9% of the entire territory of the municipality
while that figure in 1993 amounted to 49.6%.",
