abstract = "The study aims to draw attention to loss of vegetation along
watercourses by planting of cane sugar in the municipality of
Santa Helena de Goi{\'a}s, which should be maintained by the role
it plays in maintaining the biodiversity of terrestrial and water,
improving the health and quality of life of citizens. Based on
data from the municipality of Santa Helena de Goi{\'a}s, in the
period 2005 to 2007, the study aims to identify, define, quantify
and analyze the Permanent Preservation Areas - APP who had their
native vegetation removed to make way for occupancy terminations
by sugarcane sugar. Using Arcgis software and Envi, we identified
the areas being occupied by this culture, where they were
generated buffers of 30 meters, whereas a marginal band of 30
meters for water courses with up to 10 feet wide and 100 meters to
the rivers that have between 50 and 100 meters wide, which were
made descriptions of the scenario analysis. After this procedure
was performed at the intersection of the areas of APP with the
sites for planting sugar cane in order to verify the occupation of
cane sugar in PPA areas. Subsequently, calculations were made of
areas for each year in order to know what was the increase of
cultivation of sugarcane in APP. It was concluded that the advance
of this crop is not in compliance with the APP.",
