abstract = "For decades the last representative mangrove part of the eastern
edge of Guanabara Bay, also known as Rec{\^o}ncavo da
Ba{\'{\i}}a de Guanabara (today restricted to Guapimirim
Environment Protection Area APA, abbreviation in Portuguese), has
been suffering a continuous destruction. Although significantly
reduced, the remaining area of mangrove still performs an
important role for quality of water and of Guanabara Bays life.
Nevertheless, its current environmental condition requires serious
attention in order to preserve this ecosystem. There are many ways
to perform an environmental diagnosis of a coastal ecosystem like
mangrove. However, one of the promising techniques of diagnostic
analysis is the Remote Sensing Technology in orbit. Today there
are several systems available which can provide data and
consequently information with different spatial and spectral
resolutions. In this direction, this work aims to associate the
geographical space represented by the mangrove of APA Guapimirim
with the answers obtained from the interpretation of digital
mappings of several systems such as CBERS 2, ASTER, and IKONOS.",
