             abstract = "This study had as objective the use of geoprocessing and remote 
                         sensing techniques to assess the possibilities of identify areas 
                         of occurrence monodominance of aroeira (Myracrodruon urundeuva) 
                         founded in the municipality of Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais 
                         state, through data obtained from the satellite CBERS- 2B. The 
                         images were acquired by download, of gratuitous form, from the 
                         site http://www.dgi.inpe.br/CDSR/. The images were subjected to 
                         fusion techniques based on combine the colors of low resolution 
                         multispectral images with panchromatic band details which has 
                         better spatial resolution. The synthetic images generated by the 
                         fusion among the multiespectral image with the panchromatic image 
                         were satisfactory. For the identification of classes of land use 
                         the employed methodology was to the unsupervised classification. 
                         The method was selected because no extensive priori knowledge of 
                         the region is required, the opportunity for human error is 
                         minimized and unique classes are recognized as distinct units. The 
                         unsupervised classification in molten image of CBERS 2B showed 
                         satisfactory and consistent with the values found in literature. 
                         The Kappa index showed a satisfactory validation rated as good. 
                         This research strengthens the importance of extend studies, in the 
                         search for an ambient characterization where is found with 
                         monodominance areas of aroeira. The images of CBERS-2 present a 
                         good visual and spectral reply for identification of classes of 
                         use of the land, and that the tests for the choice of an adequate 
                         classifier must continue, searching to improve the adjustment of 
                         the parameters of similarity.",
