abstract = "Built in 1982, with an approximate total of 60,000 hectares, APA
Petr{\'o}polis, the first Conservation Area (APA) in the country
and second largest in the state of Rio de Janeiro, holds priceless
historical and natural riches. The monitoring of this area with
the help of thematic maps can be shown as an important resource
for planning and decision making by their managers against the
uncontrolled expansion of urban ocupation. With advances in remote
sensing technologies and software capable of interpreting your
images in an automated method, the production of these maps can
become simplified. However, high costs attributed to software
license and satellite imagery provided by some publishers may
restrict access to these technologies. Thus, this study aims to
find alternatives that allow the use of remote sensing through of
free software InterIMAGE, developed by the Laboratory of Vision
Computer - LVC / PUC-Rio in conjunction with the Division of Image
Processing DPI / INPE, and images AVNIR sold affordable by the
IBGE. From the construction of a semantic net modeled on a
knowledge-based system, proved the viability of producing thematic
maps concerning the use and land cover, which enable the analysis
of various landscape components as the forest fragments . The
methodology showed relevant results to identify the classes of
forested areas (trees and undergrowth) and shadow areas. The
classes of urban areas, rocky outcrops and cloud, however, have
yielded conflicting results, requiring improvement through the use
of visual interpretation techniques.",
