             abstract = "The supervised classification of images is a process that assists 
                         the analyst in the identification of superficial phenomena in 
                         images of remote sensing. The traditional methods, although to 
                         present good results, in some cases present a little difference in 
                         the surface phenomena. The search for more accurate methods 
                         becomes basic for the best classification of the images. In this 
                         work it was present the comparison enters the traditionals 
                         classification method of maximum likelihood and neural networks. 
                         The last one, although to present better resulted than the first 
                         method, it is more delayed and demands many attempts and errors 
                         until getting an acceptable result. But it can be an interesting 
                         method for attainment of better results.",
