abstract = "The objective of this study was evaluate the correlation between
the volume harvested from forest management plans and the fraction
images (GV, NPV and soil)/spectral indexes (NDFI Normalized
Difference Fraction Index and NDVI - Normalized Difference
Vegetation Index) obtained from LANDSAT image to estimate the
selective logging intensity and corroborate to distinguish managed
from conventional logging in the eastern Amazon, Brazil. The
results showed high correlation to managed logging between the
volume and the NDFI (R2 = 0.89), GVnorm (R2 = 0.87), NPV (R2 =
0.86) and soil (R2 = 0.82), showing that the impacts due to
managed logging are direct related to the logging intensity. While
to conventional logging was observed low correlation between the
volume and the fraction images and the spectral indexes, showing
that the impacts due to conventional logging are not direct
related to the logging intensity. Therefore, is possible to
distinguish managed from conventional logging through the
correlation between the volume and GVnorm, NPV, soil and NDFI.
Also, is possible to estimate the volume harvested through these
fraction images and spectral index when the area is logged with
forest management practices.",
