abstract = "This paper describes a multitemporal research of sugar cane
spectral behavior using field spectroscopy and its relationship
with agronomic parameters. During two seasons a commercial sugar
cane field at S{\~a}o Jo{\~a}o Sugar Mill in Araras/SP was
monitored. Radiometric data and agronomic chracterization were
gathered in 8 field campaigns. Field spectral vegetation index
showed the same pattern in both seasons and similar to the
agronomic parameters. NDVI and reflectancy in the filter 1/band 4
increased their values as far as the end of vegetative phase,
around 220 days after harvest. After that phase the NDVI values
and the reflectancy started to estabilize and decrease because of
the ripening phase and the senescecy of the crop. The data of the
first season presented lower coefficient of variation showing an
increase of the spatial variability of the sugar cane production,
caused by higher number of limitation production factors in the
second season. The results showed that field spectroscopy is an
important data to study and monitor crops.",
