             abstract = "The present work had as objective to classify the soil covering 
                         from the area that surrounds Adolpho Ducke Forest Reservation, 
                         located to northeast of the city of Manaus, among the coordinates 
                         59º 52 ' 40 {"} south and 03º 00 ' 00 {"} west, corresponding a 
                         total of 72.832 ha, using images of remote sensing.. Images of the 
                         Sino-Brazilian satellite CBERS were used, obtained on January 25, 
                         2004, georegistration, CCD sensor, with twenty meters space 
                         resolution in the colored composition (R) 2, (G) 4 and (B) 3. The 
                         generated images were imported to the SIG IDRISI 32, where it was 
                         realized the supervised classification, using the maxim 
                         verisimilitude algorithm, providing the identification of the 
                         types of soil covering, obtaining as result 4 (four) classes of 
                         land use. The class corresponding to the secondary vegetation is 
                         represented by 40,37% of the study area, followed by the primary 
                         forest (39,45%) and in smaller proportion occurred the urbanized 
                         areas and exposed soil with 16,41% and 3,77%, respectively.",
