abstract = "Acreage estimate is an essential information in crop surveys.
Satellite images, being periodically acquired, can help in acreage
estimates at several levels. This work compares the results of
digital classification of images from Landsat and CBERS satellites
for estimating soybean acreage at county level. The study region
is the grain producing zone in the state of Rio Grande do Sul,
Brazil. The accuracy assessment was done through 100 randomly
distributed points in two counties. Results were similar for both
satellite images, with small errors and high agreement between
classification and field measurements. It is concluded that CBERS
images may be used as substitute for Landsat images in soybean
acreage estimates in the studied area.",
