             abstract = "This study aims at evaluating distinct digital classification 
                         methods to detect selectively logged areas in Par{\'a} State. The 
                         results of the classification were contrasted with those obtained 
                         from visual analysis of a TM-Landsat scene acquired in 1998. The 
                         results indicated that the supervised classification procedure 
                         produced a more accurate classification when contrasted with 
                         unsupervised classification or that obtained from the use of the 
                         soil image derived from the application of a mixture model.",
