abstract = "The objective of this study was to evaluate the consistency of the
spectral information obtained in experimental areas using
Landsat-8 OLI and TERRA/MODIS images for monitoring the adequacy
of forage supply in large areas of livestock in the state of Rio
Grande do Sul. Data from a long-term experiment (64ha) with
differentiation on the level of herbage allowance were used. The
analysis included the period from August 2013 to April 2014,
totaling 9 images per sensor. The results showed that the temporal
profile of NDVI obtained by TERRA/MODIS and Landsat OLI-8 sensors
showed a similar pattern, describing the conditions for growth and
development of vegetation fields, which is determined by the
dynamics of natural vegetation, weather conditions, and by
management (herbage allowance levels). Both sensors express
similarity in spectral response, but the Landsat 8-OLI data are
bigger than TERRA/MODIS NDVI values, due to higher purity of the
first. Since the TERRA/MODIS images provide greater temporal
detail, bigger regional coverage and less need for pre-processing,
it is more suitable for monitoring purposes.",
