abstract = "The spectral characterization of targets in land surface from
images obtained from satellite sensors is only possible when the
pixels information in digital numbers form is converted to surface
reflectance. To accomplish this conversion is required the
atmospheric correction. There are several methods to perform the
atmospheric correction and different methods generate different
products. This paper aims to spectrally characterize the behavior
of Pau de Fruta tropical mire as from two atmospheric correction
methods, 6s and DOS. A set of six images were chosen, three in the
dry season and three in the wet season from three consecutive
years 2009/2010/2011, all images from the Landsat 5, TM sensor.
The method 6s proved to be the most appropriate for spectral
characterization by considering the phenomenon of absorption from
the atmosphere. The correction method DOS presented greater
atmosphere interference in the near-infrared and mid-infrared
region, probably by not considering the absorption process of REM.
The site under study showed some complexity to be characterized as
it is a dynamic environment with active participation of the
vegetation and soil in spectral response. The high content of
organic matter of the mire had greater influence in the dry season
because the vegetation cover appears to be less active in this
                         period.",
