abstract = "Currently the studies on uses and coverture of soils is
highlighted at several investigations in the world. A great
quantity of research is showing that the changes in the land
surface provide an additional power to the climate through the
changes of physical properties of the terrestrial surface. In
urban areas the vegetation is responsible for important functions
as urban space element, detaching ornamental and landscape, the
noise control, increased humidity, suitable distribution of winds
and filtering of atmospherical pollution. The appropriate function
of the vegetation is a proper thermal behavior of the urban
organization. The EVI, through its formula, minimizes the effects
of atmospherical influence and shows high sensibility to
phonological variations. This study aimed to determine the
evolution of the timeline of the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index to
areas with vegetation and urbanized of the City of Recife-PE.
Landsat satellite images, orbit and point 214/65-66, with passage
                         dates of 09-05-1987, 28-09-1989, 14-06-1991, 08-09-2005,
                         26-08-2006, 28-07-2007, 06-09-2010 and 25-09-2011 were registered
and orthorectified. The radiometric calibration and the
reflectance measurements were made. The better discrimination was
noticeable from the targets which constitute the urban
environment, making it more difficult to characterize. The areas
with forest fragments and dense vegetation were more delineated,
with EVI higher than 0.60. Areas more urbanized with reduced
spatial vegetation quantity in great part of the city of Recife
                         were found.",
