             abstract = "The Remote Sensing techniques have been used widely for analysis 
                         and monitoring of natural resources, representing an important 
                         tool for mapping and monitoring of land resources in different 
                         temporal and spatial scales. Among the Remote Sensing techniques 
                         used, the vegetation indexes like NDVI have played an important 
                         role in forestry studies. This study aims to analyze the behavior 
                         of savanna vegetation ahead climatic conditions in the city of 
                         Petrolina - PE, through remote sensing technique. For such, images 
                         from the Thematic Mapper sensor of Landsat 5 satellite were used 
                         in this study. The images were obtained in orbit 217 and 
                         paragraphs 66 and 67, with dates imaging in 09/08/1998, 
                         04/12/2000, 24/09/2009 and 27/11/2009. The images have undergone 
                         processes of geometric correction and then it was calculated the 
                         radiance and reflectance for generation of NDVI. In this study it 
                         was used also climatic data. The NDVI values varied according to 
                         rainfall events in the rainy season, moment when the NDVI measured 
                         the highest values of chlorophyll in vegetation areas of savanna. 
                         The application of NDVI proved to be satisfactory for monitoring 
                         the species in savanna biome.",
