abstract = "Three Radarsat scenes were recorded for the area of
Victoria-Trindade seamount ridge in the western South Atlantic
along the Brazilian continental shelf and adjoining region. This
is an oceanic area where the Brazil Current (BC), a southward warm
and saline water large scale flow, interacts with a very complex
topographic feature. After interacting with the ridge, the BC
flows southwestward over the Campos oil field, the most important
offshore petroleum site of the Brazilian shelf. This paper
presents some preliminary results of using ScanSAR Wide data
digitally processed to monitor oceanic features in the region.
Speckle reduction was done using a simple averaging technique.
Image registration was done using 255 control points part of the
digital data stream and a third order polynomial model. The
preliminary results indicate that the recorded images contain
useful information about oil spills.",
