abstract = "In this paper the daily infrared data are averaged monthly from
1996 to 1999 and the results are used to show the seasonal and
interannual variability of convective activity over South America.
The mean field of each season during the four years show the
contrasts among the seasons. Concerning the interannual
variability of the spring season, there are differences related to
the organization of convection from the Amazonia region and
Southeast Brazil. Specific analyses in several areas of South
America show that there is not high variability with respect to
the intensity of mean convective activity from year to year, but
there is high interannual variation in number of days with strong
activity in all the analyzed areas.",
