             abstract = "This study analyses lhe main synoptic features of the isentropic 
                         potential vorticity (IPV) fields associated with an upper levels 
                         cyclonic vortex (VCANs) over souther Brazil. The analysis for the 
                         3-5 March, 1987 period were done using lhe European Centre for 
                         Medium Range Weather Forecastings (ECMWF) data. The results show 
                         that the eastward displacement of the vortex was associated with 
                         signilicant vertical changes of the dynamic tropopause (TO) and 
                         the intrusion of stratospheric air in the troposphere. Also, the 
                         ocorrence of surface cyclogenese was acomplished by a lowering 
                         TD.",
