abstract = "The climatology for the daily positions of the Atlantic Ocean
intertropical convergence zone is proposed. Three fields are used
as tracers of the ITCZ climatoligical positioning; low level
confluence of the trade winds, low level convergence maxima of the
trade winds, and the minima of outgoing longwave radiation along
longitudes 28°W and 35°W. It is shown that the ITCZ shows maxima
daily variability at the points of maxima latitudinal displacement
to the south and the north, during April and September
respectively. The results of this study are part of an ongoing
effort to monitor the latitudinal displacements of the ITCZ on a
daily basis, as one tool for diagnostics and prediction of the
rainy period over northeast Brazil.",
