             abstract = "Anderson et al. (Radio Science, 22, 292- 306, 1987) have recently
                         presented a semiempirical low -latitude ionospheric model (SLIM)
                         along with calculated OI 6300 £airglow intensities using the SLIM
                         profiles. Regular zenith measurements of the Cl 6300 £emission
                         haveobeen carried out at Cachoeira Paulista (22.7 °S, 45.0°W;
                         geomag. 11.9 S), Brasil, since 1975. Using the long series of
                         measurements during the period 1975-1982, a comparative study
                         between the 016300£ observations and the predictions of the SLIM
                         model is presented and discussed in this paper. Also, a comparison
                         between theF-regionpeak electron densities and peak heights
                         observed at CachoeiraPaulistaand those predicted by the SLIM model
                         is presented. Large discrepancies between the observed and model
                         predicted OI 6300 {\'A}? intensities have been fbund for high
                         solar activities, mainly due to an overestimate of the F-region
                         peak heights by the SLIM model. The reasonsforthese hei ght
                         discrepancies have been discussed in terms of the longitudinal
                         dependence of the geomagnetic control on the E x B vertical plasma
                         drifts and the thermospheric neutral wind effects on the
                         F-region.",
