abstract = "To perform supervised classification is highly necessary to know
how many and what classes previously exist on under-analysis
images. However, a classification approach based on non-supervised
classifiers could furnish more interesting results when we are
interested in detecting singularities expressed by new classes not
expected by the specialists. The detection of singularities by
non-supervised classifiers could be very useful in environmental
applications. In this work we show that it is possible to use
non-supervised classifiers based on self-organized maps and
clustering methods to extract information of interest from images
obtained by IRMSS sensor of CBERS-2 imaging system. The imaged
area studied in this work approaches the city of Petrolina,
                         Pernambuco, and River S{\~a}o Francisco.",
