abstract = "An important basin nationally, the basin of San Francisco river
has a degradation potential due to some activities in its area.
The computational Geoprocessing tools, especially the GIS and
Remote Sensing, allow the acquisition, management and analysis of
spatial data to assist the management of these spaces. The aim of
this survey is to assess the environmental variables of the rivers
basin in San Franciscos area in Cerrado in Minas Gerais, using GIS
tools in order to meet it in its interactions and help making
decisions concerning the direction of the environment issues. The
development of this research began with the definition of the
subject/field of study, followed by research of the physical
aspects of the area and use of geotechnologies and then the
preparation of thematic maps: hypsometric, clinographie, soil and
land use. The mapping shows that the region shows the predominance
of a flat to slightly wavy morphology (69.74%); most is inserted
in areas with elevations between 500 and 750m (57.95%), the
predominant soil types include Latosol (35.72%); the land use
shows that 40.57% of the area is occupied by human activities, the
water bodies are about 0.56% and 58.88% and are still covered with
natural vegetation. Knowing the environmental variables and their
interactions in an environment helps and allows the adoption of
measures to protect natural environments or the recovery of
degraded areas. The geotechnologies provide important tools for
this knowledge in a satisfactory manner on environmental
                         studies.",
