             abstract = "With the global concern with climate change and attempts to reduce 
                         greenhouse gas emissions, the world community is trying to produce 
                         biofuel, to reduce the climate change process. Thus, the 
                         cultivation of sugar cane has been expanding in the world, as well 
                         as in Brazil. Thus, this study aimed to identify areas cultivated 
                         with sugar cane in the Goi{\'a}s State, Brazil, in the 2007/2008 
                         season. The methodology was developed based on four components: 
                         processing of MODIS images, dates of planting and harvesting, 
                         knowledge of the locations that were mapped and post-processing of 
                         MODIS images. The method was efficient and low cost for the 
                         identification of planted area with sugar cane to the state of 
                         Goi{\'a}s However, it is important to emphasize that the results 
                         are preliminary and still necessary to validate.",
