             abstract = "Paran{\'a} River water types were mapped using image processing 
                         and classification techniques based on Spectral Linear Mixture 
                         Models, applied on a TM Landsat image. Spectral characterization 
                         of water types was performed using both in situ radiometric and 
                         limnological parameters sampling. Both set of attributes were 
                         employed in end-member definition for the TM image classification. 
                         Results yielded only two distinct types of water classes, the 
                         first constituted by high transparency and chlorophyll Paran{\'a} 
                         water, and the second by turbid waters from channels and lagoons, 
                         found in connected rivers like Ba{\'{\i}}a and Ivinheima Best 
                         classification results were derived from the no supervised model, 
                         yielding a more reliable map of water type distribution for the 
                         studied section of Paran{\'a} river.",
