abstract = "The availability of data from evapotranspiration on a regional
scale is important with regard to rainfall-runoff models and to
weather and climate models. These models are essential in
activities such as those conducted by the National Electrical
System Operator (ONS). Under this framework, this research work
focuses on the estimation of daily actual evapotranspiration in
the region of Petrolina/Juazeiro. The algorithm SEBAL (Surface
Energy Balance for Land) was used. The SEBAL requires visible,
near infrared and thermal infrared data, which were obtained of
the TM - Landsat 5 sensor, and limited input data from the field
(air temperature and wind velocity). Therefore in this work were
utilized more data meteorological due to the calculation of
reference evapotranspiration (FAO 56 method). The results showed
both the complexity of the spatial distribution of daily actual
evapotranspiration and concordance with results found in the
literature. The spatial variability of the actual
evapotranspiration showed consistency with the land use and land
cover dataset while the temporal variability is associated with
the occurrence of the rainfall. The spatial distribution of
rainfall was responsible for different responses in the
partitioning of energy and radiation flux that allowed spatial
variations in daily actual evapotranspiration. These results show
that spectral data of remote sensing associated with data from
field allow the coherent estimation of daily actual
                         evapotranspiration.",
