GIMMS (Global Inventory Modeling and Mapping Studies) in the
period of 1982-1999, are used in this study to analyze the annual
and inter-annual behavior of this vegetation index in different
typologies of vegetation in the State of Roraima, in Northern
Brazilian Amazon, and their interactions with climatic patterns.
The samples represent the following typologies: dense forest in
highlands, dense forest in lowlands, transitional forests,
savannas and pioneer formations. The results show different
behavior in NDVI values among the three main pattern of
vegetation: savannas, pioneer formation and forests. Furthermore,
the inter-annual analysis permits identifying periods of climatic
anomalies like El Niņo and La Niņa and points out sensibility to
detect strong alterations in the atmosphere.",
