abstract = "It is important to understand the past coastal climate to evaluate
the future coastal climate, in order to evaluate impacts of
climatic changes. European Union financed a project to produce
data for the past climate (hindcast) using atmospheric models and
of wave models for the region of Europe. This project is
concentrated for the region of Ireland where the results of a GCM
were refined by a limited area atmospheric model to produce winds
with high resolution. Those winds were used by a wave model from
which wave heights and other relevant information were produced.
The project produced an atlas of winds and of waves from 1958 to
1997. It is important these data are evaluated at the
spatio-temporal domain. However such evaluation produced by
conventional statistics do not produce satisfying results, due to
the non-linear and asymmetry of the data. This work uses the
Gradient Pattern (GPA) technique to characterize the evolution of
spatial-temporal patterns of winds and waves. It is based on two
computational operators: AAF (Asymmetric Amplitude Fragmentation)
                         that allows to obtain a measure of asymmetry of a dynamic pattern;
and CEF (Complex Entropic Form), which allows to observe
intermittent patterns during the spatio-temporal evolution. In
this analysis, we apply the operators AAF, producing the first
gradient moment (g), and CEF, producing the fourth gradient moment
(in particular, the phase, \Φg4) in a part of this hindcast
(1988-1997) to detect patterns of medium and small scales.",
