This work assesses the relationship between the rate of
aboveground biomass (AGB) accumulation by secondary forest growth
in the southeastern region of the Mata Atl{\^a}ntica biome and
variables related to climate, relief and forest fragmentation. We
also estimate the carbon sequestration potential between the years
of 2018 and 2035 by secondary forest growth in the region. On
average, secondary forests and natural regeneration areas have the
potential of sequestering 2.71 Mg C ha \􀗺1 yr
\􀗺1 . The areas with the highest AGB accumulation
potential are adjacent to old-growth preserved forests, located
mainly in areas with steeper slopes. AGB accumulation rates are
higher where there is higher rainfall and lower water deficit, and
                         are limited by landscape fragmentation.",
